Frequently Asked Questions

Are my nipples supposed to be sore (direct latching)?

Although sore or tender nipples are common during the first few days of breastfeeding, it should improve. Normal soreness or pain usually occurs for about a minute when the baby first latches on to the breast. Pain that is severe or continuous or that occurs again after it seemed to resolve is a sign of a problem and should be corrected or consult a doctor. Other problems may include cracked, bleeding, or bruised nipples.

Sometimes sore nipples develop when the baby begins to suck harder because he or she is not getting milk quickly. This often is caused by:

  • Improper positioning.
  • Problems with latching on.
  • A poor let-down reflex.
  • Inverted nipples.

Sore nipples and breasts may also result from:

  • The baby sucking for comfort (“hanging out”) without a proper latch after falling asleep at the breast.
  • Pulling the baby’s mouth away from the breast without first breaking the suction.
  • The baby having a short frenulum (the frenulum connects the tongue to the bottom of the mouth). This is also called “tongue-tie.”

Are my nipples supposed to be sore (using breast pump)?

Using a breast pump should not be painful or traumatic but have to learn how to do properly, and that can take time.

Use a Breast shield/flange That Fits You Correctly

The part of the breast pump that goes over your breast and nipple is called the flange, or breast shield. Many women just use the standard size flange that comes with the pump, not realizing that it’s not a one-size-fits-all kind of product and that many breast pump brands offer the option to buy extra shields in different sizes. If you use a pump flange that’s too large, it will not be very effective. If you use one that’s too small, your nipples will rub against the sides instead of being drawn into the inner funnel, which can cause sore nipples.

Position Your Breast Carefully

Once you have the correct size flange, be sure that you’re placing your breast inside of it correctly. Your nipple should be perfectly centered in the middle of the flange. If it’s off-center, even just a little bit, your nipple will feel and look like it’s been bruised after your session is done.

Don’t Overdo the Suction and Speed

If you pump on high suction and at super speed, it doesn’t mean you’ll get more breast milk or finish pumping more quickly. Instead, keep the suction and the speed of the pump on low. Find a setting that’s comfortable and mimics how your baby nurses, which will get your milk flowing. Even if your baby has a strong suck, it still does not compare to the strength of a pump on high suction. These high settings not only causes pain to your breasts, but they may actually result less breast milk. Always start breast pumping at a low pressure setting and gradually increasing to your comfortable level. It is much suggested to start your breast pumping experience with a manual pump before using an electrical one so that your body are use to the new experience.

Don’t Pump for Excessive Periods of Time

Pump each breast for about 10 minutes. If you’re still getting breast milk after that time, you can pump for a little longer (a maximum of 15 minutes if you pump both breasts simultaneously and 30 minutes if you pump each breast separately). Continuing to pump for longer than the recommended maximum times can lead to sore nipples and breasts.

Breast Pump selection

There is many brands and style of breast pumps in the market, some being more establishing than another and each offering at differing price range.

Know and Understand what are you paying for and gauge its worthiness.

  1. Are you paying for the brand?
  2. Are you paying for the aesthetic design?
  3. Are the features claimed necessary? Do you really need them?
  4. Are the features claimed realistic?

Under normal circumstances, the sucking pressure of the baby is 60-100mmHg, but since the sucking is not a simple drawing of the nipple, it is not necessary to select a breast pump with strong suction. In fact, always start breast pumping at low pressure and gradually increasing them especially for a new mother.

Selection Considerations:

  • If you are a new mother first time into breast feeding/pumping, you would need to consider a manual pump to get your body ready into this new experience
  • If you only need to suck out some milk occasionally so that others can help feed your baby when you are out, then you only need to buy a manual breast pump or single electric breast pump.
  • If you are working full time and need to sneak out your time to suck up your breasts, then you need to use a fully automatic double electric breast pump because it can suck the milk from both sides of the breast at the same time.

Selection Criterion:

  1. Cost
    • Most of the time, we pay much money into brand. However we should be focusing more into value for money, evaluating the claims against logic, necessity, realism and desire.
  2. Weigh
    • Breast feeding/pumping period could be from 3months, 6months up to a year. Though there are some mothers do that for longer period of time. During this period, tends to have moment when you need to bring the pump around, on-the-go, travelling, etc You would imagine yourself to have to pack many things in few bags and carry them along. It is such moment that you would prefer a lighter and portable breast pump.
  3. Size
    • If you intend to only breast pumping at home, size is never a problem. However, in case you need to bring your pump along when you are out, the size of pump play a part on how well it fits into your bag.
  4. Battery Duration at full charge
    • Internationally recommend stimulation-express total cycle to be 30 mins duration (mothers can extend this session if they would so prefer). Built-in battery duration at full charge is important as it would determine how many time you need to put your pump for charging if you are outside, especially important if the place you are going are not expecting to have easy access to power point.
    • Some pumps come with USB power bank option and this is life saving feature. However such option usually available only for single electric pump as it draws lesser power than the double electric pump.
  5. Maintenance
    • How easy is it to be cleaned?
    • How many parts to be clean?
    • Though most pumps have about similar number of parts to be clean +/- 2 items, this is one consideration some mother have
  6. Spare parts
    • How easily are spare parts available?
    • Are spare parts expensive?
    • some mothers purchase additional breastshield kits so that they need not rush into washing and prep for next feeding, instead can soak their used breastshield kit meanwhile using another sets.
  7. Warranty
    • The way the warranty was being provided show the value of the company. Ourlittlelamb offer one year warranty based on baby delivery MONTH or purchased date provide lessen worries to new born mothers due to uncertainty of baby actual EDD or the actual day in which baby will be deliver.
  8. Pressure Levels
    • Unless you are buying one of those extremely cheap breast pump in the market, most breast pump would have sufficient pressure to draw out the breast milk.
    • The consideration point would be how many pressure setting levels are there in the breast pump?
    • Have a feel or demo of the suction if the pressure exert are too fast pace. When pressure are exert abruptly during expression phase, it might cause unnecessary discomfort.
  9. Features
    • there are many breast pump features claim or offer in the market, exercise your due diligent, research around the topic, weigh against your needs and wants. 🙂

Cleaning and Disinfecting Breast Pump

In a closed system breast pump, the milk path (the route where milk flows from nipple to bottle/milk storage bag) and air path (the route where the vacuum pressure or air flows) are separated.

In Horigen breast pump, the tubing, top cap constitute the air path, these 2 items need not be wash, in case it was done, it must be carefully rid off any moisture or water particle in these items. Any presence will cause the main pump to be damage as water are suck into the pump this condition is out of warranty

For all other milk path items, please disassemble them and wash them with a dishwasher or a neutral detergent like bottle wash every time after breast pumping.

You can then put them in a steam sterilizer for disinfection or boiling in boiling water for five minutes.

Though it can be use, but UV steriliser will cause the silicon parts and plastics to turn yellow.

Keep the breast pump and accessories in a dry state while on the go.

Do smaller breasts produce lesser milk?

Breast size is irrelevant when it comes to how much milk a mother produce.

A mom with small breasts might have just as much milk supply as a mom with large breasts.

The size of a woman’s breasts is mostly determined by how much fatty tissue they contain. But this tissue doesn’t have anything to do with the quantity of her breast milk.

The amount of milk you produce usually depends on how much your baby feeds or how frequent you express breast milk using breast pump – the more they feed or your pump, the more milk you’ll naturally produce.

Our patented 3D pumping technology silicon breast shield/flange helps a mother to generate more milk as it stimulate the brain for oxytocin generation.

Read more about Oxytocin in our article.

Health tips about using breast pump and breast milk handling

1. Before using breast pump to express milk, use hot towel to heat the breast, massage to stimulate the areola, and let the breast completely open;

2. Milking at a pressure suitable for you;

3. Just squeeze out the amount of eight points for milking (maximum time should not exceed 20 minutes);

4. Stop breast milk when the breast or nipple feels pain or reduce the pressure;

5. Precautions for using a breast pump Wash your hands before milking or handling breast milk;

6. Use a container with a lid or sterilized disposable milk storage bag when storing breast milk;

8. Do not put refrigerated breast milk and fresh breast milk together;

9. Thaw the refrigerated breast milk or put it in a bowl of warm water for warming before being used for feeding;

10. Do not use the microwave to thaw the breast milk or directly heat the breast milk to feed the child. Because the heat is distributed unevenly, it is easy to burn the child’s tongue. In addition, high temperature heating will also destroy some nutrients in breast milk;

11. Do not refrigerate balance breast milk. If the child can’t finish the weight of the meal, the rest will be disposed of. The thawed breast milk cannot be used after 24 hours.

12. When using freezer storage milk, always practise FILO (First-In-Last-Out) to ensure always giving your baby the freshest one available.

How does Passive$$$ works?

The best way to explain is by imagining a real-life scenario:

Step 1 – Affiliate Marketer Finds A Product To Solve Their Audiences Problem

Let’s imagine that you as an affiliate finds a product or service that suits their website niche (a niche is simply an area of expertise or focus) or forum group interest or blog post subject.

The product or service must also provides a solution to a problem your target audience tends to encounter.

Step 2 – Affiliate Marketer Creates Some Content

You starts to write/video/podcast about the product/service related content.

Each time you mention the products/service, you add an affiliate link whereby a user can make a purchase through.

So far, so good.

Step 3 – Customer Commences Searching For Product/Service Related Information

A common scenario would be:

Enter the customer, Eugenie.

Eugenie is searching for product comparison or review content about a product she wishes to buy.

Eugenie performs a search in Google and comes across a blog post or a Youtube demonstration etc created by you, the affiliate.

After reading/listening/watching your review Eugenie decides that this product is for her

Step 4 – Customer Clicks On Affiliate Link

Eugenie clicks on your affiliate link and a cookie (which will last for 30 days) is dropped onto her laptop recording that she came to the merchant’s website as a result of clicking your link.

Step 5 – Customer Makes A Purchase

Liking what she sees on the website, she decides to make a purchase.

As she does so, OurLittleLamb spots the affiliate cookie on Eugenie’s laptop.

Step 6 – Merchant Credits You With A Sale And Pays You Commission

The cookie informs OurLittleLamb that Eugenie came to the website via your link.

You have now made your first sale.

OurLittleLamb then logs a credit for this sale into your account at 10% of Eugenie’s net purchases.

This process repeats itself over the course of a month.

At month end, OurLittleLamb sends payment to the you for all the sales that were made, subject to the minimum sum rule of SGD100.

How long can a fully charged Horigen Breast Pump last?

How long should I breast feeding?

Breastfeeding time is generally 6 months to 2 years old. How long is breastfeeding best, generally determined by the actual condition of the body of the lactating mother.

The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding (i.e. no other fluids or solids) for six months and then continued breastfeeding combined with solid foods for 2 years or as long as mother and baby desire.

How much milk can I expect to pump?

A newborn

During the first five days after giving birth (before your mature milk sets in), you should express every hour for 5 to 10 minutes on both breasts. Because in this time-frame, your body will produce colostrum, which is a thick, golden fluid rich in antibodies and nutrients. While it is only secreted in minute quantities (a few milliliters only), it is perfectly adequate for your newborn’s tiny peanut-sized tummy, and the special proteins it contains will help protect your newborn from many common infections.

This comparison will give you some perspective as to just how tiny your newborn’s tummy is and how much milk he can take in:

Day 1 of life – 5 to 7ml (size of peanut or cherry)

Day 3 of life – 20-27ml (size of walnut)

Day 7 of life – 45 to 65ml (size of apricot)

Day 30 of life – 80 to 150ml (size of an egg)

Two to six months old

When your body starts producing mature milk, It is advises that you express every two to three hours on both breasts, for not more than 30 min on each breast. It is difficult to to say how much milk your body will produce at each pumping session because each mum’s body is different and unique. A mum with bigger breasts doesn’t necessarily produce more milk than a mum with smaller breasts.

How to use a silicon milk collection cup/pump?

1. Pinch the silicon body to squeeze out the air

2. the wide mouth end is buckled on the nipple

3. to ensure that the skin of the breast and the brink of the silicon funnel of the silicon milk cup collector are tightly attached and maintain a seal, this generate negative pressure

4. loosen the silicon body, the nipple and areola will be sucked towards the milk cup collector due to the negative pressure. This form a milk cup collector.

5. To operate as a manual pump, continuously pinch and loosen the silicon body several times. When operated in accordance with this requirement, the milk will flow out and be collected into the outwardly bulging portion of the side of the bottle. Release the sealed negative pressure state of the breast pump, pour the milk out, and then start pumping again.

Cleaning and disinfection before each use of the breast pump is an important task. If the silicon milk collection cup/pump is not sterilized, the collected milk is considered contaminated and therefore not appropriate to feed the baby.

I don’t enjoy breastfeeding/direct latching, is it okay to just using breast pump?

Pumping is a great way to provide your child with your breast milk without putting her to the breast.

Some reasons why some mothers unable to express milk using breast pump

There are many factors that breast pump unable to express milk. On the one hand, it is caused by the problem of the breast pump itself, and it may be that the mother has problems during the operation of the breast pump, and on the other hand, it may be the mother’s own problem. Therefore, as long as the problem is identified, the problem can be solved in a targeted manner.

1, the breast pump is not enough suction

There are many reasons why the breast pump can’t express the milk. It may be that the breast pump purchased by the mother is not enough to suck the milk. In general, there is a manual suction device for suction problems, and this problem is relatively rare for electric breast pumps. Mothers with concerns in this regard may wish to pay attention when purchasing breast pumps.

2, the breast pump frequency is too fast

Many mothers have a misunderstanding of the breast pump. They think that the faster the breast pump cycle, the more milk is pumped. In fact, this is not the case. When frequency is too fast for mothers with thin or impenetrable milk ducts, it may damage the mother’s breasts, causing mastitis and so on.

3, breast pump installation error

It may be improper installation of the breast pump and accessories. Therefore, the assembly must follow the steps of the user manual, or ask the professional to help assemble it. It should be close to the breast during use. It should be tight and there should be no air.

Suggestion:

Mothers can relax on the bed for 10 minutes before using the breast pump. Slowly and gently massage the breast towards the nipple. Gently put warm towel on the breast (not on areola or nipple) to keep the breast relaxed. Finally, start the breast pump with stimulate mode and gradually increasing pressure from small to big. Always consult your doctor or lactation consultant.

3D pumping technology is a patented technology by Horigen which will help to increase milk flow.

In this 3D pumping patent, the soft silicon will wrap around the nipple of mother and create a stimulus to the brain much like a baby sucking, the nerve endings will pass the signal to the brain, and the hypophysis will release lots of prolactin and oxytocin. Prolactin promotes mammary gland cell to produce milk, which is called lactational reflex.

What is Closed System Breast Pump?

In a breast pump, there is air path and milk path. In a close system, the milk path has no opportunity to get into the air path (eg air compartment and tubing) as they are separated by some media (generally). Usually this happens within the breast shield kit.

A closed system breast pump enables multi-users to use their personalised breast shield kit or disposable breast shield kit with the same pump as the only linkage from the pump to breast shield kit is the air path, the tubing, thereby prevent cross contamination.

What is the composition of breast milk?

Breast milk include basic essential nutrients, such as carbohydrates, proteins and fats, as well as water, however it also contains…

  1. millions of live cells. These include immune-boosting white blood cells, as well as stem cells, which may help organs develop and heal.
  2. More than 1,000 proteins that help your baby grow and develop, activate her immune system, and develop and protect neurons in her brain.
  3. All that breast milk protein is made up of amino acids. There are more than 20 of these compounds in your milk. Some of them, called nucleotides, increase at night and scientists think they may induce sleep.
  4. Over 200 complex sugars called oligosaccharides that act as prebiotics, feeding ‘good bacteria’ in your baby’s gut. They also prevent infections entering her bloodstream and lower her risk of brain inflammation.
  5. More than 40 enzymes.7 Enzymes are catalysts that speed up chemical reactions in the body. The ones in your milk have jobs such as aiding your baby’s digestion and immune system, as well as helping her absorb iron.
  6. Growth factors that support healthy development. These affect many parts of your baby’s body, including her intestines, blood vessels, nervous system, and her glands, which secrete hormones.
  7. Lots of hormones. These clever chemicals send messages between tissues and organs to ensure they work properly. Some help regulate your baby’s appetite and sleep patterns, and even aid the bond between you.
  8. Vitamins and minerals – nutrients that support healthy growth and organ function, as well as help build your baby’s teeth and bones.
  9. Antibodies, also known as immunoglobulins. There are five basic forms of antibodies and all of them can be found in your milk. They protect your baby against illnesses and infections by neutralising bacteria and viruses.
  10. Long-chain fatty acids which play a pivotal part in building your baby’s nervous system, as well as aid healthy brain and eye development.
  11. 1,400 microRNAs, which are thought to regulate gene expression, as well as help prevent or halt disease development, support your baby’s immune system, and play a role in remodelling the breast glands.

While this is a long list, it’s only some of the ingredients in your breast milk – and scientists are still discovering more. Remarkably, the levels of these ingredients can fluctuate over time, depending on your baby’s age and needs.

What should be the color of breast milk?

The color of breast milk could change by time phase and type of diet the mother has. You may notice that the color of your breast milk changes over time. During the first few weeks after you have your baby, your breast milk changes quickly. Not only in composition and amount, but also in color.

Colostrum: Colostrum is the first breast milk that your body makes. You only make a small amount of colostrum, but it’s concentrated and highly nutritious. While colostrum is sometimes clear, thin, and watery, it’s more often yellow or orange and thick. The high levels of beta-carotene in colostrum give it its dark yellow or orange color.

Transitional Milk: After the first few days of colostrum, the production of breast milk increases and your body begins to make transitional milk. During this two week transition period, the color of breast milk typically changes from yellow to white as your milk comes in.

Mature Milk: After about two weeks, your body reaches the mature milk stage. Mature breast milk changes in appearance based on how much fat it contains.

Foremilk: In general, when the mature milk begins to flow out of your breast at the beginning of a feeding or pumping session, it is thinner and lower in fat. This milk is called the foremilk. Since foremilk is thin, it tends to look clear or bluish.

Hindmilk: As you continue to pump or breastfeed, the fat content in your milk goes up. As the fat increases, breast milk turns into creamier milk called hindmilk. Hindmilk has a thicker white or yellow appearance.

Certain foods, herbs, nutritional supplements, and medications can change the color of your breast milk. Consult your doctors when unsure.

Stored Breast Milk

When you pump and store breast milk, it can change a little bit. In the refrigerator, breast milk may separate into layers. There may be a thick, white or yellow creamy layer on top, and a thinner clear or blue-tinted layer on the bottom. You don’t have to worry. It’s normal, and it doesn’t mean the milk went bad. It’s just that when it sits, the fat rises to the top. When you’re ready to use it, you just have to mix the layers by gently swirling the bottle. Breast milk can also change color in the freezer. Frozen breast milk may look more yellow.

When do I need to use a breast pump (manual/electric)?

A breast pump refers to a breastfeeding tool for extruding breast milk accumulated in the breast. It not only preserves the milk, but also stimulates the secretion of milk, increases the amount of milk, and relieves the pain and pressure caused by the milk (eg engorgement). So, when should the breast pump be used?

1. Under normal circumstances, the breast pump should be used after the milk is adequately secreted and the lactation time is regular. Generally, the maternal time will become regular within 2-4 weeks after the birth of the child;

2, if the baby is in the hospital or pre-mature baby (weak sucking ability), you should use a breast pump to store milk and then feed the baby later;

3, if the breasts are painful (engorgement), you can suck a part of the milk between the two feedings to relieve the pain; engorgement easily lead to blockage of the breast and thus mastitis.

4, If the maternal nipple is painful or cracked, the milk can be sucked out and fed to the baby, and then the artificial feeding after the nipple returns to normal;

5, If you want to continue breastfeeding when you will be away from your baby for a period of time (eg a working mother), you can regularly suck out the milk to keep the milk secreted.

6, mother with inverted nipples : It is more difficult to direct latching for mothers with inverted nipples. At this time, a breast pump is needed to suck out the nipple for normal breast-feeding or to express out the milk for later feedings.

It is recommended that all breast pump components should be removed before use of the breast pump, scrubbed with a dishwasher or a neutral detergent, do not use fungicides or detergents, and then put into a steam sterilizer to disinfect or in boiling water. It can be cooked for five minutes. Keep the breast pump in a sterile and dry state while traveling.

Why AUSBaby Goatmilk Soap?

Goat milk is rich in fat molecules (fatty acids), proteins, and it naturally contains glycerin which boosts its moisturizing qualities. It’s a natural emollient, and it gets quickly absorbed by the skin, creating a barrier that keeps it protected and smooth. Additionally, goat milk soap’s creamy texture helps it reach the in-between cell cracks and gaps easily, providing that luscious, soft feel.

Regular soaps, and even those on the high-end side of the spectrum, tend to remove the natural oils from your skin. They tend to leave your skin overly dry and with a feeling of “tightness”.

The fatty nature of goat milk soap helps your skin maintain a healthy natural oil balance, and even replenishes dry skin.

This goat milk soap is manufactured in Australia and are rich in minerals such as selenium which prevent skin damage and protect the upper layers of your skin from excess sun exposure.

Goat milk also contains alpha hydroxy acids. They can break the bonds between dead cells, which makes goat milk soap a mild exfoliant. It is why using it gives the skin a glowing and clean appearance. Alpha hydroxy acids also encourage the growth of new skin cells, helping repair damaged skin and make healthy skin look vibrant.

Goat milk soap’s anti-inflammatory properties come from the fat molecules present in the milk. If you use it regularly, goat milk soap can offer relief for skin inflammation.

Goat milk soap is high in antioxidants such as vitamins A, C, and E. They prevent the oxidative damages caused by free radicals. Its antioxidant and mild exfoliant properties work together to help delay the appearance of the signs of aging such as fine lines and sunspots.

This is a product from Australia and suitable for new born babies.

Why do I need a Breast Pump?

  1. Colostrum is the first breast milk that your body makes and is concentrated and highly nutritious though in small amount. Breast pump will helps to express these ‘first milk’ and store it till the baby is ready to be fed.
  2. Help to open the milk ducts as soon as possible, and get the breast milk early, the baby can eat the colostrum in time.
  3. Milk expressed through using breast pump allow you to clearly know the amount of milk available and can also determine the amount of breast milk feeding to the baby. Mothers who are directly breastfeeding are always worried that the amount of milk is not enough. Eg I don’t know how to judge whether the baby is full or not. I don’t know how much the baby’s milk is growing, but milk expressed using breast pump will mitigate such concern.
  4. Feeding time will be relatively shorter as the baby will not develop the habit of biting the nipple to sleep, resulting in effective feeding time. Direct breastfeeding sometimes easy to cause the baby becoming nipple dependence and developing the habit of sleeping with a teat.
  5. Direct latching usually takes longer duration in a particular posture. With expressed milk using breast pump, a mother will be somewhat alleviated from backache, leg pain from maintaining a constant posture for a long time.
  6. Engorgement is a situation when mother have a suddenly high amount of milk production but is not being expressed out. Using breast pump, this situation can be deal with anytime and not related to feeding time.
  7. Direct latching has the occasional situation where baby bites the nipple and causes pain, inflammation and may result in nipple crack. Using breast pump, this situation will be relieved.
  8. When using breast pump to express breast milk, the baby will be fed through a bottle eventually. This will avoid the situation of baby refusing to be fed from bottles after sometimes of direct latching. This early ‘bottle-training’ make it easier to feed baby with water (eg when taking medicine) and creates conditions for the mother to go out during the lactation period or go to work later. (Many babies are used to the mother’s nipple and refuse to eat the bottle’s nipple. Adding complementary food or feeding water is more troublesome; and the mother wants to go out, always worried that the child does not have milk to eat, and if the breast pump is used, the milk can be expressed out before being taken, put in the refrigerator, and eaten with the heat. )
  9. It is easier to wean. (Do not rely on the mother’s breasts, you can add other foods to your baby at appropriate time, and gradually wean. Some children refuse to eat other things when weaning, mother will be stressed)
  10. During direct latching, after the baby is full fed and the milk in the breast is not empty, use a breast pump to express out excess milk (clearing the milk ducts)
  11. In the case of preterm babies, the baby is too small or too weak to suck the nipple. Using breast pump expressing the breast milk and feeding using syringe becomes important.
  12. Breastfeeding mothers cannot breastfeed on time (eg working mothers), so that breast pump is use to prevent engorgement.
  13. Breast pump is used during situation when the nipple is cracked and cannot exercise direct latching.
  14. Mothers with inverted nipple could express breast milk using breast pump and feed the baby using bottle.
  15. Breast pump is definitely a convenience for working mother whom wish to continue breast milk feeding experience after their maternity leave.

Why do I need silicon milk cup collection cup/pump?

During direct latching or when using single breast pump, the other side will naturally have milk leakage. As such, a silicon milk collection cup will help mothers in this situation to prevent messiness as well as having an extra volume of milk.

Silicon milk cup collector offered by ourlittlelamb can be sterilized in boiling water or UV steriliser.

Why do I need single breast pump or manual breast pump?

We encourage breast feeding and often confused over the needs of a single or even manual breast pump. Following list some of potential circumstances:

  1. Practicing 100% direct latching: under this situation, some mothers will select single/manual pump either for expressing the other side while direct latching one side
  2. Using after direct latching: to prevent blocked milk ducts and other complications, single/manual breast pump is used after direct latching to ensure all milk are expressed/drained.
  3. Cost conscious: Although double pumps usually have a feature to enable only using one side, however the cost of double pumps are usually much higher.

Why do we need disposable nursing pad?

During the initial weeks of breast feeding and for some mothers, there will be milk leakage situation. A good disposable nursing pad enable mothers to always feel dry and clean when returning to work, or during period of over abundant milk supply, when your milk first comes in, or being away from your baby for a few hours crossing over the milking hours or late night during sleeping time.

The frequency of changing nursing pad  is relative across individuals though it can be up to 6 times a day.

Constant exposure to wetness against your breasts could lead to skin irritation and sore nipples, which can also create an environment that will encourage the growth of yeast and bacteria, which can cause infections such as thrush and mastitis.

Why do we need use disposable milk storage bag?

New borns have very small appetite and when mother are producing in excess relatively, the expressed milk can be kept clean and safe in milk storage bags inside fridge for later consumption.

The easy storage form factor of disposable milk storage bags mean you do not need to consider another fridge for storage as compare to bottles due to space constraint.

Milk are being expressed by a working mother in the office periodically or by the stay home moms in-between latching, these expressed milks have to keep somewhere somehow, usually, are then kept in milk bottles.

By doing so, working mom will then transport the milk bottles back home and transferred into disposable milk storage bag and sending them into freezer.

As wall thickness of disposable milk storage bag is thinner than milk bottles, it freezes faster. Further, disposable milk storage bags are great space saver and a lighter load to the wallet than the milk bottles (imagine a fridge full of milk bottles vs one filled with milk storage bags).

Ourlittlelamb offer disposable milk bag bundle with a free wide neck Direct Pump-in connector which offer efficiency and facilitate transportation to mothers.
